CTD is used to collect data on ships using CTD frame, Deck unit and Underwater unit. This is quite expensive in terms of ship time.
The WXCTD can be deployed in the sea without stopping the ship. It is designed to go down to 200mtrs and will re-surface. Once it re- surfaces the data can be downloaded through Wifi using the proprietary mobile app or on a laptop.
