This is a sediment sampler used for collecting sediment from the top surface of the seabed. This grab is operated using a single wire rope from a suitable winch. Upon bottom contact, the grab collects sediment samples from the top surface of the seabed.

The sediments collected in the grab are used for biological, hydrological, and environmental studies.
